Annie

Last night at 10:30 Annie, our dog got hit by a car! We found out because Brody and Tell came over to tell us. Some one had hit her and drove off. She had just been inside 5 minutes before. Alex had the door open because it was so hot and the dogs were wondering in and out playing with their neighbor friend dog. When I went out to her she was just sitting there, crying a little bit and looking at me. How sad! My first thought when I saw the back half of her was, "Oh, no we're going to have to put her down!" Her back half was bad! We decided that before we moved her, she was in pain, that we would see if she would even make it. So we called Sid and Kristen and they came right in. (THANK YOU) At first look they were like, "Oh, this is bad." But when they looked closer they thought she might make it, and if it was their dog they would take her in. So we did. Kristen and Sid picked up our sleeping kids and took them home and they spent the night with them. (THANK YOU AGAIN) They had a big slumber party and didn't even miss us. The vet stabilized her for the night. He wasn't sure she was going to make through the night. She did! This morning she had two hours of surgery. She still as one serious problem that we don't know about yet, time will tell. But she looks tons better, she's happily drugged and can wag her tail a little. (Without going into too much gory details her tail was barely on among other things last night). If her problem is resolved she'll probably get to come home on Friday. The kids are going to see her tomorrow after swimming lessons. So I have a dog in the ICU. ha ha. I can't wait for her to come back because our family feels incomplete. And Hank, our other dog is very sad!

Now I know some of you think that's the stupidest thing you've ever heard. "Just shoot the ^(*$ dog!" Thank you for much for the comments, but as my Aunt Bobbie says, "You either pay the money for the vet, or you pay the money to the therapist for your kids." In this case I think I would have needed the therapy!

So the moral to the story is: don't make fun of people who spend money on their pets, take them to the Vet ER in the middle of the night, go visit their animal like it's a person in their family at the hospital, talk about their pet having surgery, and talk about their pet maybe not making it through the night and the mom (me) not being able to sleep during the night and staying by the phone, BECAUSE it could happen to you!!!

So I'm not an animal lover but that is so sad! I hope everything continues to go well.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Our pets become members of the family too.
