My funny friend Laurie

A pix of Laurie.

This is a conversation I had with my friend Laurie today after our YW Pres meeting. It's like my kids quote section. I should start a Laurie section.

We were talking about what was for dinner at each person's house. (It was 5 PM). The answers were ham, turkey...then Laurie,

"Oh, we're having dove." We all look at her because we know she's serious, but we're amazed at the same time.
So I ask, "So how does dove taste?"
She replies seriously, "It's a lot like pigeon."
"Okay Laurie, that doesn't help me out."
"How about duck?" she replies.
"Well you're getting closer, but I haven't had duck either. Let me guess, it tastes like chicken" I said.
"Nope. I guess it has its own taste like rattlesnake."
I reply, "And I'm sure you've had that."
"Yeah, it was just alright though."
Ilene, another friend said, "I heard frog legs taste like chicken."
"Nope, they have a fishy taste" Laurie replied.
I asked, "So is there anything you won't eat?"
She said, "When the boys brought home the bobcat I told them to get that thing out of my freezer because I wasn't cooking it."
By this point we are all in hysterics and I don't Laurie I was going to blog her and she was laughing her head off.

Laurie was in the YW's presidency when I was a little YW and I really enjoyed her. Funny you talked about dove because just on Monday we went to a barbque and they had some dove. I didn't know until Monday that hunting dove was the "in" thing. George said it was tough and salty.

SOunds like a lot of my conversations with Ben. Except he doesn't laugh, he can't understand why people haven't tried things. I'll never forget him describing Cornish Game Hen as "Gamey" and not being able to describ it any other way. "Gamey" to me means you've just played a game of basketball and are sweaty and stinky ... but to Ben, it's a taste of meat ... some people ...
